The "mother/daughter look-alikes" Grape-Nuts commercials ran in TAGS time slots from 1968 to '70. Take a break from the show, and re-live one of the commercials regularly scheduled with TAGS!
Remember, "Oh no, Mrs. Burke! I thought you were Dale!"?

I think the commercial you refer to was for Ivory Soap. We remember that one, because it had a similar theme as our commercial. It's true that it is rare to find old commercials on the web, which is why I created this archive for our family's commercial.

My brother, Adam, developed the Burke Family Grape Nuts TV commercial archive after much controversy on the Mystery Science bulletin board. Someone asked the question, "Where did 'I thought you were Dale' come from" since it has appeared in many mystery science films. The "facts" guys stated that it was from a hand-soap commercial and after many attempts by Adam and I we could not convince them it was from Post Grape-Nuts and they need to change their facts!!

Mrs. B,
[ Miss Crumps Blackboard ] [ FAQ ]
Do you remember the product advertized using mothers/daughters with a line like, "Who's the mother and who's the daughter?" They paid close attention to the youthful facial skin. I think it was for Dove Beauty Bar (soap).
How did you find this commercial? I searched the net for the last hour and came up with a lot of nothing.
Weather notes: It's yet another ozone warning day in rural Chicagoland. Already starting up a migraine headache. There's a "chance" of it raining tomorrow. A chance?! Grrrr!

Which also explains how I "found" it! I was in the commercial -- starring my mom and sister -- along with the rest of my family. We have extensive archives from that time, including film of the commercial itself. I am hoping to make that available for view.
Thanks for your comments!

I am Dale. Glad to see someone remembers our commercial!!!
Re: 1968-70 commercial ran in TAGS slot...
I didn't remember the product in your commercial, but I remember thinking that this commercial was waaaay better than the mother/daughter commercials for Ivory (your brother reminded me of the product on that one, I thought it was for Dove Beauty Bar).
The guy's voice, all gurgly with water when he said his line, made me smile every time. He sounded like he should have. The mistaking of mother for daughter figures was more believable than faces being confused, imho. You all looked like you were have a great time, too.
So, did you marry the guy?
Mrs. B

It's good to have you folks here. I just wanted you to know, Dale, that I had a crush on you (and your mom) while that commercial was running.

During the late 60's there were several commercials that had the Mother/Daughter theme.
Ivory Dishwashing liquid, which featured hands. The audience was to guess which hands were the Mother's and which were the Daughter's.
Dove facial soap, had a commercial that showed the faces of the Mother and Daughter. The point was to show if you (Mother) used Dove your skin would look youthful, like your daughter.
Grape-Nuts went further and featured the "full body" comparison. There were 3 commercials in all: Ours was the swimming suit commercial, the others were water skiiers, and horseback riders.
We had a blast making the commercial, the house where it was filmed was lovely, a large estate at the base of Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale, AZ. (a very ritzy community!!)
No, I did not marry the guy, Dennis. I was seeing someone else.
Thanks for your interest in our commercial, it's been fun chatting about it!!
Dale

Well, looks like I mixed up my Ivory with my Dove! I appreciate my sister's clarification. It's interesting how we often remember the commercials, but not necessarily the products advertised.
